Why did you want to do a boudoir shoot? I choose to do a boudoir shoot after ending a difficult relationship, I needed to feel better about myself.

How did you choose your photographer? I investigated local photographers via the Internet site, and found Joyce’s work was equal to if not better than another known Austin photographer.

How did you feel as you were preparing for the shoot? I was terribly nervous.

Any advice for ladies thinking about doing a boudoir shoot? Learn to relax, a glass of wine is always helpful.

Your favorite moment of the whole experience? Working with Joyce, I tend to be a controlled person, she helped me relax.

Any thing you want to share about what you wore or where you shopped? The lingerie was bought at a local shop named Underwear, how appropriate.

Just for fun: Define what SEXINESS &/OR BEAUTY means to you. I believe sexiness is synonymous to softness, never hardcore.

Did this experience change the way you see yourself, or the way you think of beauty?
Anything else you want to share about your experience? This experience was wonderful for me, I am much more confident and comfortable with myself. My session with Joyce, changed my perspective and my life.

FEATURED MEMBER | Raya of Your Hollywood Portrait

By | Featured Members | No Comments

Today we are proud to feature Raya of your Hollywood Portrait Studio – a fabulous New York City Boudoir Photographer and member of Boudoir International!

A little more about Raya:
Raya was Born in Israel and moved to Paris at a young age. After years of odd jobs and a developing interest in photography, her creative vision caught the eye of In Paris fashion editor. Not only has she worked for over ten years with prestigious magazines such Harper’s Bazaar, ELLE, Dansk, and luxury brand such as Cartier and Sephora, but she is a multi award winning photographer. She won the International Fashion Photography Festival in Cannes (France), has been named Master Hasselblad and her work has been exposed in Paris, London, Beijing, Dubai and New York. After moving to New York and then living/working for a short time in China, she has returned to New York and continues to pursue her passion for creative, enchanting photography.

Raya’s experience in fashion definitely affects her boudoir work, and allows her to make everybody comfortable during their boudoir shoot. Her goal is always the same: to make her clients look and feel beautiful.

And now for a little Q&A with Raya!
What do you love about Boudoir?
I love to create an intimate atmosphere with the right props and the specific lighting. I love create images that appear to come from an old hollywood movie. I take a lot of pleasure in making my clients look beautiful and chic. Boudoir photos are much more personal to people coming to the studio and I appreciate to the fullest the trust these woman give me.

How does your fashion work inspire your Boudoir work?
The world of fashion photography demand a high level of precision. Everything has to be perfect, the lighting, the makeup and hair, the poses. I have worked with very demanding clients both in editorial and advertising, so over the years, I learned the best lightings to make a woman look beautiful. The lingerie campaigns I shot helped me position the body in the most flattering way. And the beauty campaign completed my skills. So I am very demanding of myself when I shoot, no matter the type of shooting. Also my French background and my 10 years career in Paris give me a certain style that my client appreciate.

If you could shoot anywhere on the planet, what location would you choose and why?
I had the opportunity to shoot in a few castles in France and the Ritz Carlton in Paris, and these were amazing settings. Outdoor, the most magical place I shot was probably the Palais Ruhl in Marrakech. But the best place for me is to create my own setting, that comes out of my imagination (always with a retro feel).

Do you have a favorite visually inspiring music video?
There are 2 music and music video that inspire me:
Kris Isaak & Britney Spears – Till The World Ends. Both are sensual and sexy in totally different ways

What advice would you give to other aspiring boudoir photographers?
I would recommend to always be passionate about their model and it will transpire in the photo they create. Spend some time in to learn lighting, it what gives the emotion to the photo. Get inspired by magazines like the Italian Vogue and Numero and try to find your own style. Look at your client best feature and highlight them. Use the right position, play with the shadows to hide the small imperfections.

Raya, thanks so much for sharing, and for letting us share your beautiful work with the world! We are so glad you are a part of Boudoir International! Make sure to check out Raya’s portfolio on Boudoir International!

A dreamy Paris photo shoot…

By | Editorial Shoots, Inspiration | No Comments

boudoir photos paris divas garden sunny  Sexiness is different to everyone. It depends on your mood, maybe what you like to wear, or maybe even what you think is deemed a “sexy” location. Ask us and we will always say that Paris is the “sexiest” city in the world. Now onto the definition of boudoir photography, every photographers definition may vary, but for us, it’s sexy photos of a woman that make her feel incredible! So now combine our loose definition of sexy with our lovely definition of boudoir, and you might be able to say this video and images make the cut for this blog. Either way, we want to encourage women that boudoir photos doesn’t have to mean racy lingerie, or the lack of any lingerie, hee hee. You can take gorgeous sexy photos in a dress, or a sweater and jeans. And if you find a location that is a sexy too, well that’s is just icing on the cake! paris boudoir photographer louvre seine fashion boudoir-photos-paris-arc-triumph-notre-damn-fashion-gown-sexy

What was your overall vision for the shoot, or – how did you decide to shoot this concept?
From the moment we are little girls from one avenue to another we are surrounded with images and ideals of what women “should” look like. We see women in magazines, on television and on the runways, modeling with their thin bodies. It can set an unhealthy tone for a girl’s life if she is naturally curvy. There is no way that a naturally curvy woman will be able to exercise or diet enough to fit into a size zero, nor should she want to!:) Every woman is built in different ways and learning to embrace yourself and your body (yes all of it!) will promote more happiness and acceptance in life. Jodi Lynn, photographer and owner of Le Boudoir Studio believes plus size boudoir photography is so much fun!” (written by Le Boudoir’s studio blogger, “Tianna Leigh”)

I had clients that were coming to me asking if it was ok to come in to the studio if they were plus size, my answer, “heck yes!” I saw that Amanda embraced herself and loved herself and wanted to share that to everyone! My clients did not see enough curvy women on my website and I needed to change that, pronto!

Did you work with a stylist, or did you style all the outfits/accessories yourself?
I brought Amanda shopping so we could make sure we had the perfect fit and style that we were going for! Her husband though loved the cute sexy nerdy girl look at the end and picked it out himself! I wanted to make sure even though we had her model for us that she still had something included that was sentimental for her man!

Describe the styling of the shoot
We wanted to have a few looks, not just one:) My client also owned a few items but not all….

Most of our lingerie was Lingerie Superstores since we also have a partnership with them:)

I always have spare stilettos, at the studio in most sized as well as fedoras, pearls and other jewelery that we purchase at Charming Charlies. An amazing accessory store that you can spend hours in!

How would you describe your typical style, was this a departure or were you playing into your typical inspiration? Most of my style is pretty, bright, natural light but I like to have something for everyone. This is why I added the “Bombshell set” which is the set Amanda did with the gray and black stripes and wall sconces. Super sexy and moody:) Most people describe my style though as sweet and sexy and I feel like the sweetness of my style makes clients less timid to work with me:) I feel like this session shows my style for sure!

If you could choose the most important pieces of the styling or set in your images that you would say set the tone for the whole shoot what would they be?
Honestly, I think that each outfit we chose goes with the light from each set so I feel like the outfit is key! The clothing on the bed is soft and sweet and the dark set has more moody dark clothing. Even the plain white background has the perfect clothes because they really pop since the background it not distracting.

Photographers always know that nothing goes to plan in a editorial shoot where there are so many elements that have to come together, overcoming them and still getting killer images is what makes us pro. 🙂 What challenges did you face?
I think this went very smooth compared to other modeling sessions. I feel like Amanda was very shy at first but really broke out of her shell and embraced everything. I think its hard for any size girl to meet someone for the first time and start trying on lingerie for them within the first 10 minutes of introducing ourselves in person. I think finding the outfits was stressful at first as we tried on so many!

Describe the setting of the shoot/location, and how it inspired you:
The session takes place at my studio in Tempe Az, “Le Boudoir Studio” I almost always shoot there but wanted even more bright lighting so I decided to photograph more in front of the window than we normally do. We just purchased a new chandelier and us photographers know that when we have a new prop we want to platy!

Would you want to recreate this shoot for your clients? Or was this a one-of-a-kind original?
Most sessions I do for models is to test it out for a future client so I love using this session as my inspiration for them!

You are beautiful…

beautiful quote boudoir

What boudoir photographers all seem to have in common is the belief that every woman is uniquely beautiful and the desire to showcase each person’s uniqueness. It seems that most women tend to look more for perfection in themselves, rather than seeing what beauty others see in us. We think that a boudoir shoot is an amazing way to give yourself the opportunity to throw away the idea that perfection is necessary, and instead embrace all the positives. Strong healthy legs, smile lines from a life of laughter, strong shoulders from picking up kiddos, hips that definitely remind you you are all woman, and the list continues.

Real Boudoir with Katelyn Turner Design + Photography | Peoria Illinois Boudoir

By | Real Boudoir | No Comments

Today’s fun outdoor boudoir shoot comes from the fabulous Katelyn Turner Design + Photography. Katelyn is a boudoir photographer in Peoria, Illinois, and we just love this outdoor boudoir session she sent us. Her beautiful client Janell has agreed to share about her boudoir experience with all of us – thank you Janell!

Why did you want to do a boudoir shoot?
I wanted to surprise my husband with something special for our 1 year anniversary. A boudoir session seemed like the perfect thing to do. Also, we’d been discussing starting a family within the year and I wanted to document my body, pre-pregnancy, to look back on in the future.

How did you choose your photographer?
I’ve been an admirer of Katelyn’s photographic style for a while. She has such a unique, gorgeous, original style that really wows the eye. I’d been looking for any excuse to book an appointment with her so I searched her site and saw that she offered boudoir. I looked through her galleries and loved each and every photograph. They were so classy and fresh.. I emailed her to book a shoot right away.

How did you feel as you were preparing for the shoot?
I felt very excited to be working with Katelyn, but also fairly nervous. Like most any woman, I had some insecurities about my body but I knew that my husband would love the photos so it would be worth it. I had a lot of ideas for the session so I was pretty excited to see them come to life.

Any advice for ladies thinking about doing a boudoir shoot?
Do it, and don’t look back. If you find the right photographer, your nerves will fly right out the window and you’ll feel nothing but beautiful. You will feel so gorgeous getting all dolled up in your lingerie. Its a great and unique way to embrace and showcase being a woman. You just have to trust the photographer… They do this for a living and they KNOW how to pose you to get the best image possible. Calm down, enjoy it, and let your insecurities disappear. You ARE goregeous.

Your favorite moment of the whole experience?
It was over 100 degrees that day and being outside was like being in an oven. Katelyn had me lay down in the shade of a gorgeous old oak tree and we recreated a classy pose I’d seen in a vintage 1960’s playboy with a straw hat. It was so fun to see my inspiration come to life. Really, the whole shoot was amazing. Katelyn is so fun to work with and really made me feel at ease and beautiful. She kept snapping away and telling me I looked like a bombshell or how gorgeous the photos were turning out. She even turned the camera to me and let me peek at a few.

Define what BEAUTY means to you.
The definition of beauty, to me, means feeling great in your own skin. Its owning your body, every dimple, freckle, and wrinkle and being okay with that. Everyone is beautiful… its all about letting yourself believe that. Beauty is a quiet confidence.

Just for fun favorites: share your favorite lyrics from a song, or a favorite quote.
And I wanna rock your gypsy soul
Just like way back in the days of old
Then magnificently we will float into the mystic
-Van Morrison “Into the Mystic”

Did this experience change the way you see yourself, or the way you think of beauty? Anything else you want to share about your experience?
I really think this experience made me feel less insecure and more beautiful. When I look back through the album, almost a year later, I realize that the things that I was insecure about only existed in my head. Those photographs are so beautiful because they show a woman with confidence.

Thanks again to Janell & Katelyn! Be sure to check out Katelyn’s full profile on Boudoir International!

The perfect bra accessory…

By | Lingerie & Styling | No Comments

|LINGERIE IDEAS FOR YOUR BOUDOIR PHOTO SHOOT| lingerie-boudoi-florida-texas-hair-make-up

You may have heard of it…. the bra sling! This little lingerie accessory is amazing. You wear it lower than the bra and it does serious wonders for cleavage. Especially for us ladies that aren’t as buxom as others…. this thing is magic! A must for any boudoir shoot. The one in this photo was originally purchased on Victoria’s Secret. However we haven’t seen them on their site for a while, but it looks like there is some sort of black market stock on Amazon. Click here to see if they have any left 😉
